Hi everyone I'm Mari. I joined this blog today It's glad to meet you.
I learned about body language in morning class.
i was told from my Australian friend she was suprised when i pointed at my nose as i said "it's me" and i was talikng about my self.
In Australia and Canada, people poin at their chest.
Do you think is it strange Japanese people point at their nose?
I also learned many differences of body language between countries today.
it was interesting.
could you give me a hand with learning English and cultures ?

Hi Mari! Sorry that I have taken such a long time to reply to your post! But anyway, it is very nice to meet you!! My name is James.

Sometimes when I watch Japanese dramas, or if I talk to some of my Japanese friends (I don't see them very much anymore, because I'm in college) I notice that they will also point at their faces if they are talking about themselves. I think it is interesting. It's not weird that Japanese people do that, it's just a different way of communicating!

I went to Tokyo at the end of 2007, and I realized that I communicate with my body way too much! I made a mistake when I was talking to my Japanese friend's mom--I made quote symbols with my hands~~~She was so confused! If someone is telling their friend about something another friend said, we usually will say "He/she said......." and take the pointer finger and middle finger of both hands and make a shape that looks like these: " "

I know it may sound weird, but people in the English speaking parts of the world will usually do this if they are telling somebody about something that somebody else said. When I did it in Japan, I learned to never do it again there!!! But you will see it often in America!

I wrote a lot! Talk to you later! ~~~~~~James
